Approach
“I am not what has happened to me, I am what I choose to become.” – Carl Jung
For as long as I can remember I have had a passionate curiosity in the human condition and for much of my career I have worked with individuals assisting them in becoming the best versions of themselves that they can be. I was drawn into the field of psychotherapy to understand the psychological pain that individuals experience in their lives. My studies enabled me to identify how I could assist these individuals in finding a way through their pain and beyond.
Psychotherapy and counselling is not a one size fits all approach, hence I work with each client individually, collaboratively, according to their needs and at a pace that is suited to them. I use different approaches that work best for each client – this is called an integrative therapeutic approach. The approaches I incorporate into my therapy are Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Cognitive and Existential approaches.
Experience & Areas of Interest
I work with many different kinds of clients. Some are troubled and suffering with an overall sense of floundering in their lives, unable to make decisions. Others are holding on to events in their past which are affecting them still and causing disruption in how they function in their day to day life. Many experience work related stress and find it difficult to identify the cause or a way to cope with this stress. Some clients experience relationship issues and some have suffered a major loss in their lives. Others have experienced deep trauma in their past or present, which can be emotional, physical or sexual and all are deeply painful. Often clients feel a deep sense of unhappiness and find difficulty in identifying the cause of their sadness.
For many individuals, the thoughts of commencing therapy can be frightening and some of my clients have told me it was the fear of the unknown. For all of these individuals, I offer a non-judgemental, confidential and trusting environment where they will feel heard and understood. It is my aim to ensure that my clients feel supported in their pain and accompanied on their journey to recovery so that they can eventually leave therapy and continue on with their lives.
