Training & Accreditation
My training is humanistic and integrative. Accredited with Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP). I hold a Masters Degree (MA) in Psychotherapy from Dublin Business School. I also hold a certificate in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and a professional certificate in Art Therapy.
Approach
Having trained as a humanistic psychotherapist I believe that the children and adolescents have the ability, with the appropriate support, to draw on their own inner strength to live a happier and productive life. In many cases, clients learn how to form their first equal and mature relationship. I am someone who is not a parent, guardian teacher, but someone who will support them make the choices that are right for them. Children and adolescents don’t always have the means to express themselves with words. Therefore, I like to take a creative approach using art, games, stories, drama and other appropriate creative way to help clients express themselves.
Experience & Areas of Interest
I typically work with children and adolescents who experience
- Relationship difficulties.
- Difficulty in discovering their own identity through relationships within family or peer groups
- Performance stress when undertaking exams both in school and elsewhere.
- A traumatic event, or
- Difficulty in coping with a parent or guardian’s cancer diagnosis
In support this wok I have many year’s experience in counselling those impacted by cancer and have co-facilitated on the CLIMB programme for children. Also, I have undertaken specialist training in the areas of Attachment, Trauma, Drama and Mindfulness.
